Here are projected installation costs for single components and entire split systems. Our goal is to help you plan your budget for an HVAC project such as replacing your furnace or installing a heat pump split system in a newly built home.
Single Component Replacement
Many times, homeowners will only replace one component in the system. While all components generally last 15-20 years, this isn’t always the case. Or, for energy efficiency reasons, you may want to replace your furnace in a cold climate with a more energy-efficient on or replace an AC in a hot climate for the same reason.
Here are the installation costs you can expect. We give a range for each one, since no two jobs are alike. Among the factors that affect the cost of a particular job are these:
- Removing and replacing an old system costs more than installing equipment in new construction.
- Attic and crawl space installation often costs more.
- Having to replace the plenum on a furnace/ductwork will add to the cost.
- The amount of extra materials such as refrigerant lines, refrigerant, sheet metal or wire.
Here are projected installation estimates for the most common types of HVAC components.
Gas Furnace Only: $700-$2,000
Heat Pump Only: $850-$2,200
Air Conditioner Only: $600-$1,750
Air Exchanger: $150-$350
Air Purifier: $150-$300
Built-in Humidifier: $90-$250
Whole System Replacement
Your costs will be significantly higher, of course, if replacing more than one component, such as replacing a furnace split system with a heat pump split system. Here is what you can expect.
Gas Furnace Split System: $2,700-$5,200
Heat Pump Split System: $3,200-$5,500
Boiler System: $2,700-$5,000
Packaged System: $2,000-$4,000
Ductless Split System: $800-$2,000
