A furnace heat exchanger is an intricate piece of the furnace. It is made up of metal sheets with tubes and cylinder like notches. It is supposed to take fire and remove it from the air stream. One thing that should be analyzed is how strong of heat exchanger that you have. If your exchanger is damaged, it could be dangerous health-wise for everyone who lives inside the house.

If you have a damaged exchanger, the air stream will contain fire has been rolled out within it. You want to make sure you have a durable heat exchanger and one that doesn't rust easily.

Good quality heat exchangers are a must as well as one that doesn't rust. Picking a furnace heat exchanger that is of poor quality will cause the coil of the air conditioner unit to leak and ruin the material, which could lead to a fire. Another item to prevent this is the combustion blower with an 80% efficiency level or one that has a condensing furnace with an efficiency level of 92%.

Having either of these, a blower or a condenser can prevent flue products from coming into the air stream. You will have to occasionally inspect the heat exchanger. The most common cause of damage is dropping during shipment, damage when its installed, it overheating or poor quality control during testing.

To be on the safe side, always purchase a furnace brand that is able to give you step-by-step guidelines and is able to provide you with helpful tips and things to look out for after purchase. Do not buy name brands that have unclear safety standards. You double check your furnace's information with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission's site online. If you start to notice a discoloration or a bluish color, you will need to immediately change out the furnace heat exchanger. The original color should be a silver-chrome color.
