This overview of Lennox HVAC products will allow you to compare this brand to other leading brands like Carrier, Trane and Goodman. Lennox remains one of the most respected names in the HVAC industry. The brand made the first riveted furnace on the market in 1895 and has been an innovator ever since. The Lennox Corporation makes residential and commercial units with worldwide sales.

In recent years, Lennox has been at the forefront of the drive to produce energy-efficient equipment. Its current top of the line heat pump and central air conditioner are among the most efficient you can buy.

In addition, the Lennox SunSource Solar Ready equipment, while expensive up front, can reduce or eliminate heating and cooling costs by supplying all the energy needed for running the systems.

Lennox Residential HVAC Equipment

Like Trane, Carrier and a few other leading brands, Lennox makes the complete range of heating, air conditioning, ventilation and air quality products. These include:

  • Gas and oil furnaces
  • Central air conditioner condensers
  • Air-source heat pumps
  • Air handlers
  • Ductless split systems
  • Package systems
  • Boilers
  • Air quality systems
  • Thermostats and controls
  • Solar modules

Here’s a look at the three series you’ll find when you explore most types of Lennox HVAC equipment.

Dave Lennox Signature Series: This is a top-five series within the industry. It compares to Carrier Infinity, Trane XL, American Standard Platinum and a few others. Modulating and staged heating and cooling is found throughout the series along with variable-speed blowers in furnaces and air handlers. Most components are Energy Star rated. Warranties are good, but not great. We review most of the components in this series in our HVAC reviews.

Lennox Elite Series: While not as efficient as the Signature Series, many still offer Energy Star results. You’ll find a mix of single-stage and two-stage units, so you’ve got options in this series. It compares quite well with the Trane XR and American Standard Gold Series.

Lennox Merit Series: There’s more of a drop-off in this series than you’ll find in the Carrier Base series. The units are more affordable and warranties are fairly short.

Reasons to Buy Lennox HVAC Equipment

Top of the line Lennox equipment is attractive to those who want very high efficiency along with proven reliability. Because the price is higher than most brands, it takes longer to get the value from it. Therefore, many homeowners only choose Lennox Signature equipment if they plan to stay in their current home long term. Even if choosing top of the line, it makes sense to have a qualified contractor install the system to make sure it gives you the performance and efficiency it's capable of.

The best Lennox systems are also popular with homeowners committed to using solar energy to offset some or all of their energy consumption. While the equipment is costly, it reduces energy use and carbon output dramatically in regions like the West and Southwest where solar is a viable alternative.

Lennox Elite equipment is a good choice for those that don’t want to spend top dollar but still want better-than-average equipment. The Elite Series is popular where lower cost trumps high efficiency or the very best quality.  See our HVAC reviews for dozens of specific Lennox models available.
