We all know the market is dictated by supply and demand right? Guess what... this is the time of year when most Heating and Air Contractors are dealing with very low demand and making deals every single week!

Why? The weather! The hot summer days have passed and the cool days of winter are not here! Essentially, nobody needs heating or air conditioner for the next few weeks!

Gas Furnace Deals are Everywhere!

Whether you decide to find a REPUTABLE local contractor, or buy a cheap gas furnace on the internet... NOW is the time for the best bargains!

Locally, a system install that may cost $7500 or more in 3-4 weeks when the demand picks up, may be as little as HALF that cost today! Likewise, Gas Furnaces on ebay are at a seasonal low also!

Don't wait too long... as soon as the first freeze hits - prices go back up!

One of the most common issues in early winter, are Gas furnaces that wont stay running! They repeatedly cycle on and off, only heating for 2-5 minutes. This is commonly referred to as Short Cycling.

You may have a gas furnace thats several years old yourself. During a cold snap the furnace won't heat the house to desired temps. It will turn on, ignite and provide heat for a short period of time and then turn back off, after only a few short minutes of relief.

Many people jump right at replacing the thermostat, hoping it will fix the issue, but alas, its not likely the problem. You may see a flashing light which is a diagnostic code and may flash 3 or 4 times. You can refer to your user manual, which is usually left on top of the furnace, to diagnose these codes.

Short Cycling is caused by one main thing- your furnace overheating, and the safety mechanisms, automatically shutting it down. Regardless, it should be treated as a very serious problem as there have been cases of leaky heat exchangers causing this to occur as well.

One of the first things to check is that you have adequate airflow going to the unit. Check all your filters and make sure they are allowing air to pass through. If they are dirty, replace the filters and try the unit again. If this makes no difference, check to be sure hot air is not blowing directly onto your thermostat, causing the call for heat to be met soon after the unit turns on.

If all else fails, you are much better off calling out a service company to come and diagnose the problem for you. There are simply too many areas that need to be considered, for a homeowner to diagnose on their own. Always check with Angies List before calling a contractor. You will find unsolicited reviews from people just like yourself of the best contractors in your area, as well as the costs that people paid for the work.

If you know what is broken and want to attempt the repair on your own, take a look through our eBay store for the Furnace Replacement Parts at quite a discounted price!

Its that time of year again... we wake up cold in the morning and need to switch from air conditioning to HEAT on our wonderfully dormant Gas Furnace! I don't know about the rrest of you, but if I have done nothing to it in months... this is usually when my fingers are crossed!

Heating Season Furnace Maintenance

While there are quite a few things you may not be qualified or equipped to check on your own, there are some very basic things you can do to make sure your Gas Furnace will fire off on that first cold fall morning! I suggest you set yourself a few hours this coming weekend, throw on some work clothes, and get ready for your own system inspection!

Like any inspection, you really just want to take in the overall look of your system as you approach it. If you see rusted out panels, or doors that are hanging off, this is a sure first sign of bad maintenance!

The second thing you want to look at is the furnace venting, or flue, system. Grab it with your hand and "gently" try to jiggle it a bit from side to side. All you are doing here is checking to make sure it is securely fastened and sealed at the exhaust outlet on your furnace. If it moves around alot... take a note of it, and move on! You may need to get an experienced HVAC company out to make some repairs!

Warning: You DON'T want to mess with a leaky flue vent! Carbon monoxide is an invisible gas that will sneak up you or your family while you are sleeping, and likely, keep you sleeping! If you have a gas furnace in your home, do yourself a favor and either get a Carbon Monoxide Detector, or test and replace the battery in your existing unit!

Checking your Heat Exchanger

While physical and complete inspection is too hard on someone who does not know what they are looking for, a basic visual checkup is easy enough! If you have ever owned a gas grill, you recall how the burner ribbon would rot out... it would slowly decompose around the endges of where the stamping took place right? The basic idea is the same for your furnace heat exchanger!

Remove the side panel of your unit and just have a quick look at the exchanger itself. It is a very large tubular or ribbonlike metal component inside the furnace, that heats up and transfers that heat when air is forced across it. If you see even the smallest of pinholes, you MUST call out a qualified service company for further testing and possible repair! A leaky heat exchanger is nothing to mess with folks... and many local gas utility companies will require service technicians to shut off your gas, if they find one and you are unwilling to have it repaired or replaced!

You can read this page for further info on heat exchanger inspection, it even has pictures!

Throughout this week, I will cover more items you can check on your own for furnace maintenance!

Carrier, one of the leading manufacturers of HVAC equipment in North America, has quite a line up of Gas Furnaces for your home! From the every popular and expensive Infinity Series, down to the less efficient Carrier Comfort series furnaces, you are bound to find the right unit for you own needs.

Before you can decide which furnace is right for you, you need to have a bit of understanding about which efficiency is best for your own needs.

AFUE - Annual Fuel Utilization Effeciency, the higher the number... the better! In other words, if a carrier furnace claims 95% AFUE, it is telling you that it will effective provide .95 cents worth of heat for every $1 dollar you pay for fuel, or 95% efficient. Alternatively, an 80% AFUE carrier furnace will only return .80 cents worth of heat, for every $1 you pay for gas!

What AFUE Gas Furnace Should I Buy?

This all bears the question, when do you want a 95% unit? Easy... if you live in a colder climate where you use heat from September through April, or something similar, you will save quite a bit of money on your energy costs, likely paying yourself back for the extra cost of the furnace within 1-2 years! On the other hand, if you live in Florida, where you only heat for 2 months out of the year, and even that is only to knock the chill off in the morning, you will never reclaim the extra expense of a high efficiency unit. NOT to say you shouldnt buy on, but your main focus should be on a higher efficiency air conditioner or heat pump, since that is what you use most!

Where Can I Buy a Carrier Furnace?

It depends on who you ask! If you are a DIY type homeowner who wants to save many thousands of dollars over local dealer pricing, you can buy a Carrier Furnace right on eBay!

Carrier Furnaces on eBay are few and far between! Its not because they are hard to come by, its more of a fact that as soon as they list, they are sold! If you click the link in the upper right, leading to the Inifinity seller on eBay, you may find that there are no, or just a few units left in stock! The replenish stock every week, but as you will see... they sell as quickly as they are listed!

If you dont have luck on eBay, you can always visit the carrier website and search for a local dealer.

This is probably one of the most common questions we fielded over the years of selling Carrier HVAC online!

Can I Buy Wholesale Carrier HVAC Online?

The bottom line answer, is that it depends on who you ask! I know, how much help was that... We sold Carrier through our online store for more than 2-3 years and never had any issues at all, until a local contractor took offense that the high end Infinity equipment was bought wholesale instead of from them.

We were asked by the local distribution warehouse to refrain from our aggressive online marketing efforts... I mean, we actually had supply houses calling us for parts, which is great for OUR business, but not good for them at the dealer level.

In all it came down to a dealer in Florida who was very successfully selling Bryant and Carrier HVAC Equipment online and he did not like it that we were selling to his customers, thus he complained. There are no laws broken when you buy HVAC equipment online and many of the manufacturers have actually started encouraging their independent dealers to honor installation of those that were bought across the web. After all, it only makes sense that you get the customer information and win a customer versus having them jack-leg install the new unit and mess it up!

Carrier HVACcan be found on ebay only right now as many people will buy it in bulk during a closeout and resell it online direct to you. In our case, we used to buy 150-200 units at a time for literally pennies on the dollar. We would then distribute it through eBay and ship it direct to the buyers. Overall it was a very smooth and efficient process that left 100% of our customers happy!

One thing for sure.. you will get a top of the line, high quality system for your home, at half the cost you will pay locally!

Did you know a Waste oil Furnace can save you ALOT of money? I mean, lets face it, if you are a small business who is trying to figure out how to heat your warehouse this winter, a waste oil burner is right up your alley!

Consider for a minute that you have a fleet of 25 vehicles, each requiring an oil change only once a month. With an average of 5 quarts x 25 vehicles, you will have more than 31 gallons of FREE heating oil for your garage or warehouse area!

I realize that most fleet based companies have many more than 25 vehicles and they also change the oil more frequently than once a month! Add to that trucks, buses and other large vehicles and a company could literally pay for 100% of their winter heating bill with the waste oil from the vehicles!

Where Can you Buy a Waste Oil Heater or Furnace?

Simply put, eBay! Yup, the world's largest marketplace has quite a few waste oil parts and full heaters in their shopping area, depending on how you want to proceed!

Waste Oil Furnaces on eBay

Over the next week or so, I plan on showing you how to build your own waste furnace if that is the way you prefer! Stay tuned!
