Top Rated Heat Pumps 2015 Top Rated Heat Pumps 2015

Heat pumps are becoming more efficient and very popular. The most efficient units produce lower heating costs than even the most efficient gas furnaces.

Keep in mind that they don’t heat using electricity like space heaters do. They simply use electricity to circulate the refrigerant which does the job of carrying heat from one location to another. In the winter, the refrigerant collects heat outside and releases it indoors; when cooling in the summer, the process is reversed.

Dual Fuel Heat Pumps

Several of these heat pumps are dual fuel models. This means that they are ideal for very cold climates. In dual fuel systems, also called hybrid heat systems, the heat pump does the heating until the temperature drops into the mid- to low-30s. At those temperatures, heat pumps lose efficiency. At this point, the furnace kicks in for a seamless transition.

Modulating Heat Pumps

The first six of these are modulating heat pumps; the rest are two-stage models. A two-stage heat pump runs on low capacity (65% capacity) most of the time, running on high only when you adjust the thermostat for increased heating or cooling or when the outside temperature changes quickly.

Modulating heat pumps can run at any capacity between 40% and 100%. They operate as low as possible to create longer, gentler heating and cooling cycles. They adjust during each cycle as needed to produce very balanced temperatures. This also removes more humidity during cooling. Comfort is optimized with the use of a variable-speed air handler or, in dual fuel systems, gas furnace.

The Best 2015 Heat Pumps

Each one delivers outstanding efficiency and climate control.

Note:

SEER: Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating for cooling

HSPF: Heating Seasonal Performance Factor for heating

These measurements are like gas mileage-the higher the rating, the less energy is needed to deliver the heating and cooling you want in your home.
