2014 HVAC Rebate Programs for New Jersey Homeowners
The state of New Jersey offers a wide range of programs that provide rebates to homeowners who install energy efficient HVAC equipment and increase their home’s insulation. Here are the programs and their details.
COOLAdvantage Program
This state rebate program will help you keep your home’s climate more comfortable throughout the summer months. Central air conditioners and heat pumps are eligible for a $500 rebate. The equipment must meet these specifications:
- Central AC, Ductless Mini-Split, Heat Pump: minimum 16 SEER, 13 EER, 8.5 HSPF (heat pumps)
- Geothermal Heat Pumps: Energy Star
WARMAdvantage Program
The state wants to help you stay warm for less too. Here are the eligible technologies and the amount of the rebates available.
Residential Electric Customers (including municipal utility customers):
Solar Hot Water Heater: $1,200
Residential Gas Customers (including propane):
- Gas Furnace: $400
- Gas Boiler: $300
- Gas Water Heater: $500
- Solar Hot Water Heater: $1,200
- Oil Heating Customers:
- Oil Furnace: $300
- Oil Boiler: $300
Home Performance with Energy Star Program
This is a comprehensive rebate program that targets everything from HVAC to lighting to duct sealing and insulation. Here are the rebates offered:
- Energy Savings From 10% – 19.99%: $2,000 and 0% loan up to $5,000 where utility loans are not available (single-family); $500/unit (multi-family)
- Energy Savings From 20% – 24.99%: $4,000 and 0% loan up to $10,000 where utility loans are not available (single-family); $1,000 per unit (multi-family)
- Energy Savings Greater than 25%: $5,000 and 0% interest loan up to $10,000 where utility loans are not available (single family); $1,500 per unit (multi-family)
New Jersey Comfort Partners Program
This program is available to low-income homeowners that qualify. It provides for the installation of energy-efficient equipment and materials at no cost to the recipient. The program covers:
- Furnaces
- Central air conditioners
- Programmable thermostats
- Home insulation
- Duct sealing
- Boilers
- Water heaters
- Refrigerators
New Jersey SmartStart Buildings – Pay for Performance Program
This program applies only to multi-family residential dwellings and not single-family units. A range of HVAC equipment is covered along with lighting and more. Here’s a look at the rebates:
- Electric (existing buildings): $0.18 – $0.22 per projected kWh saved
- Gas (existing buildings): $1.80 – $2.50 per projected therm saved
- New Construction: $1.35 – $1.65 per gross heated sq. ft.
- Energy Reduction Plans: $0.10 per gross heated square foot
A few New Jersey utility companies also offer rebates for the installation of energy-efficient HVAC equipment. For example, the PSE&G – Residential Efficiency Program offers significant rebates including:
- Central/Ductless Mini-Split AC: $500
