2014 HVAC Rebate Programs for Illinois Homeowners

The state of Illinois continues to support efficient heating and air conditioning of homes throughout the state. While many utility companies in Illinois are offering rebates for the installation of energy-efficient HVAC equipment, the state’s program is aimed at conserving the energy already used in heating and air conditioning.

Energy Impact Illinois Rebates

This Illinois state rebate program supports the sealing of duct work and the addition of building insulation decrease the loss of air that has been heated or cooled. This is an important program because studies have found sealed ducts and properly insulated homes will use up to 25% less energy.

This means that the amount you spend to insulate your home and seal your ducts gets paid back pretty quickly, especially with the rebates from the state.

The amount of the rebate for homeowners is 70% of the project cost up to a total rebate of $1,750. If the cost of the project exceeds $2,500, the state of Illinois makes low-interest loans available.

  • 0% for first 12 months
  • 8% after 12 months

Note: For Rockford, IL, homeowners, the maximum rebate is $2,000.

Illinois Utility Rebates

Utility companies throughout the state offer rebates for the installation of energy efficient materials and HVAC equipment. Check with your utility for details.

One example of an energy-efficiency rebate comes from MidAmerican Energy which is offering these rebates for the installation of Energy Star rated HVAC equipment:

  • Room Air Conditioners: $25
  • Central Air Conditioners: $100-$200
  • Heat Pumps: $100-$400
  • Ground-source Heat Pumps: $1000-$2000
  • Desuperheaters: $100
