Learn More About the Florida HVAC Rebate

There is a short and ongoing FAQ section being built for this Florida HVAC rebate program that contains some of the most common questions people have. There are a few things I can see from this program that are fantastic for both homeowners AND HVAC Contractors!

  • HVAC Systems MUST be FULLY Inspected by a Qualified Pro! This is not some fly-by-night craigslist man with a van that will be coming to your home, these are state licensed and qualified professionals!
  • System Replacements REQUIRE A Manual J Load Test - Again, this assures that you are getting the right sized unit for your home, period! Its very rare for a manual j to be done on a replacement system, but it MUST be done to qualify!
  • Mechanical Permits are Required for the rebate! Again, this means you the homeowner are assured you are getting a quality installation that will last a long time!

Wow, this has to be one of the best pieces of news we have found this summer! We are int he same boat as jan and have to replace our heat pump system. The dealer just told us $6500, but forgot to mention this rebate next week.

Looks like we sweat it out for a few more days…

    Just had systems checked out.
My A/C unit is OK but ducts are shot.
Can I/do I get a rebate for that work and ujpdgrade???
    thanx

  4. Mark says:

    @ Len -

The only way to get the rebate is to have a qualifying system installed AND have the ducts repaired. Both are a requirements of the rebate from what I read.

That said… you may find other federally funded weatherization programs in your area that will help out!

Too bad you will have to spend $500-700 on the Manual J and duct certification just to MAYBE get $1500. Funnily, the program just started today with a slated 15 mill and at 9 am there is 14,900,000 left. Makes me wonder how someone got a unit installed, Manual J and duct cert, PLUS mailed all the necessary documentation in before 9 am on the day the rebate program starts!

  6. Bill Citizen says:

@ Marie, the price quoted sounds fine for a high efficiency unit. Your dealer did not tell you about the program because the Government asked dealers to not advertise before the program start date. While I would have told you, he was just abiding by the request of the Governor.

  7. Joe P says:

As of 9/15/2010 They Are Saying that the money is gone. I had a new system put in and the co. that does the testing said that they got an email the money is gone.
