What’s Involved In a Spring AC Tune Up?

I was looking around YouTube this morning and found this fantastic video on Spring AC Tuneup from Gary Sullivan of HomeWorx! According to the video, performing seasonal maintenance can save up to 32% on energy costs!

Spring Air Conditioner Tune Up Tips

As you watch the video, two things become instantly clear, you have a little bit of work to do both inside and outside, but you also need to call out your local HVAC Contractor, and have them do a bit of the job as well.

  • Washing the Outdoor Condenser should be done from the inside out!
  • Shut off the power, remove the fan guards, and wash from inside.
  • Electrical Should be tightened and checked
  • Should be done at least ONCE a year

Indoor Air handler and Coil

  • Drain pan should be kept as clean and mold/mildew free as possible (Annual cleanings)
  • AC Drain line should be cleaned at least twice a year!
  • Use Anti Mold and Antibacterial tablets or Nu Calgon Antibacteral Pads to make sure mold does not grow!  Here are some for sale right now on Ebay:
