Cheap HVAC Systems on the Internet and eBay

How to buy a Cheap HVAC System

I was recently involved in a discussion about how to find Cheap HVAC Systems on the web. Hopefully, by the time you finish reading this post, you will know exactly where to look yourself!

Before you can buy a cheap hvac system, you need to know which components you may need for YOUR specific system. If you use natural gas for heat and your heat is not working, chances are, you would like to find a cheap gas furnace versus the entire system. On the other hand, if it is mid summer and your AC quit working... you are looking for a cheap air conditioner or cheap heat pump condensing unit.

eBay is always a great place to find new and used cheap hvac systems... so lets take a peek at what you might need:

Our HVAC Store on this site lists many of the listings from eBay, live as you are reading! When its time to replace and you want a Cheap HVAC System, visit our hvac store pages and start shopping, you will save thousands off the local pricing!

Whats all the Hype about Hybrid HVAC Systems?

If you found this article, chances are pretty good that someone has recommended, or just want to learn more about Hybrid HVAC Units for your home. With this post, I hope to try and help you understand a bit more about hybrid heating and cooling, so your decision will be easier.

In a nutshell, hybrid hvac systems allow you the ability to decide which form of heat you want during the colder months of the year. Hybrid system have no effect on your cooling costs. In many homes, you have a gas furnace inside with an air conditioner unit outside your home. A Hybrid HVAC System is very similar with the main difference being your outdoor condensing unit is a heat pump, versus a straight AC unit.

The choice on whether to get a Hybrid HVAC Unit or not, should be based on several factors, but the most significant, is the amount of HEAT your home uses. For instance, if you live in a place like Florida, where heat is rarely used, you will probably never get back the amount of money you spend to install a hybrid heating system, since you rarely use heat.

Here is the scenario...

You live in a town where the cost of electricity and natural gas are about the same right now, so you decide to stick with a gas furnace and AC unit outside your home. In November, the price of natural gas goes through the roof, and so does your heating bill over the winter months! Electricity however, remained at the lower cost...

If you had a hybrid system with an outdoor AC Heat Pump in your home, you would be able to tell your thermostat that when the outdoor temperature was above 35 degrees, instead of using the gas furnace to heat the home, use the heat pump! That means you would be using the lower cost of electricity to heat your home... When the temp goes below 35 degrees, most heat pumps are much less effective and your thermostat would automatically switch over to the gas furnace for heating purposes!

Cost of Hybrid Heating

In our area, North Carolina, you could generally expect to pay about 20-30% MORE for a hybrid system. This is based on two factors... 1: Heat Pump condensing units cost a bit more than straight AC, and 2: Contractors know that hybrid heating systems are a thing of the future and will just charge you more because they can!

If you have a perfectly fine gas furnace right now, you can easily switch the outdoor unit to a heat pump and you do not have to replace the entire system!

Local Resources for HVAC

Coming soon to our site will be a listing or directory of heating and AC contractors around the country, who are willing and actually enthusiastic, about installing equipment you purchase via the web.

I know it sounds like a small thing, but you would be surprised how many local hvac contractors want nothing to do with installing, or even helping you, with equipment you did not buy from them. They make most of their profit from the total sale of product with installation, and unfortunately, it is hard to convey the total cost of doing business.

Stay tuned!

HVAC Filter Media and How it Affects Home HVAC

I was going to include a picture of a Dirty HVAC Filter on this post... but they are just too nasty!

One of the most common points of your home hvac system you have access to, is often the most neglected, your HVAC Filter. When you hear people say you have to replace it often and wonder why, this post will help explain it in straight terms.

To best understand the importance of replacing your home hvac filter, lets look at a similar situation on our cars. As you drive down the road, the radiator in the front of your car allows air to pass through, thus cooling the refrigerant (antifreeze) that passes through your engine. Imagine if someone sprayed mud all over the front of your car and the radiator became completely plugged... no air would pass through, the coolant would not dissipate the heat from your engine, and eventually... your car would just overheat and leave you on the side of the road.

in your home HVAC System, there is actually a very similar process! Inside your system is what we call and evaporator coil - it works very similar to the radiator in the front of your car, except you cannot see it! When your outside condensing unit pumps ice cold refrigerant into the evaporator coil, air from your blower passes over it and blows that cold air into your home. The coil relies on being clean to work efficiently and when dust or dirt build up on it, the flow of air is reduced and it eventually freezes up into a block of ice!

Really, you don't even need dust on the coil to cause a freeze up situation. If your HVAC Media Filters are dirty, they will reduce the amount of air that your blower can use flow across the coil. Try this... take a deep breath and fill your lungs with air. Felt good no? Well, now cover your mouth with your hand and try to do the same thing! Your lungs will starve for air since you plugged the opening that feeds them. Same thing... Dirty HVAC Filters block the airflow into your system, which leads to the unit starving for air, and eventually freezing or complete failure!

Changing your hvac air filters is the easiest thing you can do to make sure your system runs at its highest efficiency. Some brands, such as Honeywell, make filters that are supposed to last longer periods of time due to being thicker... dont fall into the trap!! Even if you buy high efficiency air filters, you MUST remove and clean them every 30 days. Failure to do this will leave you sweating in the middle of the summer!

In a future post, I will talk about the differences in HVAC Media Filters...

Here we Go - HVAC Store Categories, Explained

As we have been adding categories to our Online HVAC Store, we wanted to step back and explain what you could expect to find in each. Today, I will explain the FULL HVAC Systems Category.

In the Full or Complete HVAC System category, we are listing all complete systems you may be interested in seeing. Within the category, you notice there are a few different types of systems:

  • Split HVAC Systems with Gas Furnace
A split system with a gas furnace, usually involves three main components. A Gas Furnace, and evaporator coil, and of course the outdoor air conditioner condensing unit.
  • Heat Pump Split Systems
A heat pump split system is generally comprised of two components. Indoors you will have what is called an Air Handler. The air handler has a blower and an evaporator coil installed in one unit. Outside, you will have the heat pump condensing unit, which provides your air conditioning and heat.
  • Heat Pump Package Units
A heat pump package unit is one large unit, usually attached to the side or back of your home. These are 100% electric heating and cooling units, that connect directly to your duct system. They are very common in mobile homes.
  • Gas Package Units
Gas packs, as they are commonly referred, are similar to the heat pump package units, with the exception that they use gas or propane as the source of heating in the winter months.

Tomorrow, we will add another explanation of the areas within our HVAC Store.

Still chugging away on the HVAC Site Redesign

Like we said last week, we are still hard at work getting all of our onsite hvac store categories properly formatted and configured.

Adding a WordPress blog to our site has been a fun little challenge with all the efforts in getting it working with our eBay HVAC store settings. The prgram we use to filter through the ebay listings is called Build a Niche Store and it is actually quite a powerful utility to harness the expansive ground known as eBay.

For the next 30 days or so... we are going to continue shaping our store for you... this means we will continue to listen to your requests and add categories of products based on your needs.

Thanks again for your patience during the transition...

Mark
